Government by a Sample

If it wasn't strange enough that scientists were taking a tiny jaw bone and asking us to believe that they could concoct from it the origin of a human race, now we were supposed to become wide-eyed about poll samples and the opinions of comedians with their own talk shows. These politicaly motivated thesbians were expecting the average Joe to bite down so hard on this propaganda that, with a few slights of the hand, the aforementioned illusionists would soon influence the masses to buy and sell their deceptive agenda on command. I tell you, I was not falling for it for even a moment, however, it was evident that many complacent citizens were and had. Therefore, I felt it my duty to write the following response to attempt to snap the public from their trance, before it was too late:

It is bad enough that the majority of our laws are continuously shuffled from voted decisions at the legislative level to the Supreme Court for appeal where they are re-decided and become precedent for future decisions. By this shift of power from the legislative body which supposedly represents the heartbeat of the American people to a minority of judges who may have had a bad day when they voted, our nation is shifted from a republic, which affords us liberty and justice for all. The shift is to an oligarchy, which is rule by a majority of three. Since a majority of one is a dictatorship, this puts our country in a very precarious dilemma. However, the greatest nightmare would be the Congress becoming a polling institution that enacted a perverted sense of justice based on the latest poll or the latest talk show. It is a no-brainer that polls only sample a minority of the selected few, as in they didn't ask me. However, they do greatly influence the opinion of the people viewing them. It is no wonder then that Clinton's approval ratings climbed. Another obvious factor is that voters tend to stay away from issues that involve partisan infighting. On the talk show side, viewers may have forgotten what the name "Politically Incorrect" implies. It means that what is being argued on the show is supposed to be, and often is, "incorrect." Perhaps a better name for the show would be "Incorrect" with a "viewer beware" message both before and after each airing segment. The host of that show is a comedian, not an expert, and his views should not be misconstrued as the views of Texans or the American people. The host is ever so conscious of the show's commercial appeal and finds controversy much more interesting to our base nature than moral truth. It is important to add that people polled on Monday and Tuesday may not answer the same way as they do on Thursday or Friday, so let's not get too carried away with how they read.
